Volunteering opportunities in the wider community

Foodbank Collection
Start a collection of food and non-food items outside your home. We are currently collecting for Colindale Foodbank. They accept deliveries on Tuesday and Thursday between 11am and 2.30pm. For more information about how and what to collect email Micah Gold.

Visors for the NHS
Join the Visor Army Facebook Group and support our NHS heroes by making a donation towards the materials here. Our own Maryanne Taylor Goldman is our local co-ordinator.

Stitching Scrubs
Hospitals and healthcare providers are in need of scrubs and scrub laundry bags. If you can do any of the following: cut fabric, sew and deliver then you can help. Join this Facebook group for further instructions or email northlondonscrubs@gmail.com. If you can’t do any of the above then please you would consider making a donation on their crowdfunding page.

Deliver meals to the NHS
Compassion London are cooking 1000 meals a day at Saracens and need people to help deliver these meals. If you can drive, you can help, please contact Sher.

Compassion London charity have a support page here.

In addition, a collective from the Indian Community are using their catering/ restaurant kitchens to produce food and deliver to anyone in need, NHS staff, people stuck at home, etc. They are seeking any donations of food from things that can be bagged/boxed like crisps, biscuits, drinks etc; fruit and veg; to things that can be cooked with. Anything that is surplus due to the crisis or has a short use by date etc. This appeal could work for anyone in catering, food sales, wholesalers, etc.
The woman organising is Daksha Varsani (07939 924968). The hall they are coordinating from is Kachiaa Samiag/Heather Park Community Centre HA0 1SH and donations can be taken there.

Margot Bakery
Margot Bakery is open, and they are baking and donating loaves of bread for NHS workers. When you pop in there to buy your own bread, you can donate a loaf yourself. They are also looking for people who can deliver their bread to local people who are ill as well as NHS workers. If you can help with deliveries, email Michelle.

Accumlate Art Kits
The Accumulate charity provides creative workshops to people affected by homelessness. It has had to stop its weekly creative workshops due to CV19 and instead is sending out Accumulate Art Kits to people living in hostels, hotels and temporary accommodation.

The Accumulate Art Kits have art materials and a set of instructions for a specific art activity for the participant to do and these creative activities helps to improve their wellbeing and mental health at this time. They are now sending out over 370 art kits to 32 hostels across London every week and have a waiting list too as demand is so high!

If you are interested in helping at all with the Accumulate Art Kit project they currently need the following:

1. unused and new art and craft materials (sketch books, pastels, colouring in pencils, glue sticks etc)
2. colour magazines for a collage project, so food, interiors, fashion magazines are great for this

3. printing labels and art kit instructions (about 400 at a time)
4. and of course - if anyone has any contacts for art / stationary suppliers or can help on this that would be great!

Each send out of the Accumulate Art Kits costs over £1000 so if you would like to, instead, support this project please donate here.

To find out more and to help, please email Marice Cumber

Government run initiatives
Sign up to become an NHS responder via the Government’s call here. They may have a bit of a backlog as they are not taking any more volunteers at the moment, but that is likely to change in the future. Keep visiting the site for updates.

You can sign up to join your local Mutual Aid group for your ward here. That will put you on the national database and connect you to a local WhatsApp group to enable you to help neighbours.
